Present continuous tense

PRESENT CONTINUES TENSE

We have completed Present Tense in our previous lessons.Today,we are going to learn Present Continuous Tense.In my previous lessons,I told you one thing that in each and every tense you should concentrate on two basic things structure and uses of the tense.

PRESENT CONTINUES TENSE

The structure of Present Continues tense is very easy.

Structure ; 

Sub + is/am/are + Verb1+ Ing form + Object.

Blindly remember following rules: 

Rule no.1 

If the Subject is 3rd person singular or if the Subject is singular noun.We use helping verb ' is.

Example.

He is playing cricket.

She is going to school.

Rule no.2 

If the subject is 'You,we,they or plural noun.We use 'are as a helping verb.

Examples.

You are playing cricket.

They are playing games.

We are going to school.

Rule no.3 

If the subject is ' I ' we use 'am as a helping verb.

Examples: 

I m playing cricket.

I m using mobile.

Remember: 

.We always use -ing form in this tense.

.Ing form of the verb is also called Present Participle

.Present Continues tense is also called Present Progressive tense.

We use Present Continues tense in following Situation.

1-To tell what is happening now 

2-To tell what is happening nowadays 

3-To tell future action 

Let’s look how can we use it.

A) To Tell What is Happening Now.

If you are doing something right now.If You are using your phone,laptop or doing some work.We use Present Continues tense to tell those actions.

For example You are watching movie and I call you I ask you what are you doing right now.

You will answer me.

I m watching movie.

I m using my phone 

I m sleeping 

I m going to college 

Others examples; 

She is planning something.

She is sitting outside the room.

They are working here.

B) To Tell What is Happening Nowadays.

Nowadays means what you have been doing in your life nowadays.What are your actions that you do daily.

For examples: 

I come at your home to meet you.You are watching Movie and I also sit there.You are now cutting the apples for me You are going to give me apples.That Time I ask you

What are doing nowadays ? 

You reply me I m going to the University.

Same question You Ask me what about you ? 

I reply I m learning English language.

We are both sitting but we told another actions.Are we speaking a lie ? 

No,We are telling the truth.We use Present Continues tense to tell our actions what we have been doing nowadays.

C) To Tell Future Actions.

We something planned before the action is going to happen.We all have something that we are going to start soon.To tell already actions,works,or activities we use Present Continues tense.

In this way You have two structure to tell the Future already plans.

Structure no.1 

Sub+ is/am/are + v.ing form + Object.

We have already learned this structure in our previous examples.

We can also use this structure to tell our future already planned activities.

Examples.

I m working in Lahore 2020.

I m preparing the meal next hour.

I m starting a new life next week.

I m starting a new business next month.

Structure no.2 

Sub+ is/am/are + going to + verb 1st form + object.

Examples.

I m going to get an admission soon.

I m going to start my new business next month.

We are going to visit Lahore.

We are planning something.

We are going to celebrate our brother marriage next month.
