What is linguistics

Linguists study language at multiple levels, from the sounds and phonetics of speech to the syntax and grammar of sentences, as well as the meanings and interpretations that people attach to words and phrases in different contexts. They also investigate how language varies across different cultures and communities, and how it changes over time.

Linguistics is an important field of study because language plays a crucial role in human communication, thought, and culture. By better understanding how language works, linguists can help us to develop more effective methods of language teaching, machine translation, and natural language processing, as well as shed light on the nature of human cognition and social interaction.
